Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 15, Repsol has begun generating electricity at its Antofagasta Phase 1 wind farm, a 364MW facility in Chile’s Antofagasta region. This marks the company’s largest wind project to date and one of the most significant in the country. The site, developed entirely by Repsol, represents a nearly €400 million investment and is the company’s first fully owned renewable energy project in Chile.

Construction of Antofagasta Phase 1 took 19 months, with commercial operations expected to start in the coming weeks. Once fully operational, the wind farm will produce 750 GWh annually, enough to power approximately 220,000 Chilean households each year. The project underscores Repsol’s commitment to expanding clean energy solutions in the region.

In the same area, Repsol is planning Antofagasta Phase 2, which will add around 450MW to its renewable energy portfolio. Unlike its earlier projects in Chile, both phases of the Antofagasta wind farm are wholly owned by Repsol, distinguishing them from the company’s joint ventures in the country.

Repsol’s operations in Chile also include Repsol Ibereólica Renovables Chile, a 50-50 partnership with the Ibereólica Renovables Group. This joint venture manages the 188MW Cabo Leones III and 166MW Atacama wind farms, both located in the Huasco province of the Atacama Desert. These efforts complement Repsol’s growing presence in Chile’s renewable energy sector.

Renewable energy projects are a cornerstone of Repsol’s strategy to transition toward sustainable energy. The company currently operates nearly 4,000MW of renewable energy worldwide and maintains a global project pipeline of 60,000MW at various development stages. The Antofagasta Phase 1 wind farm is a key milestone in advancing these goals, contributing to cleaner energy production in Chile.

The development of Antofagasta Phase 1 highlights Repsol’s focus on delivering reliable renewable energy while supporting local energy needs. As the company prepares for Phase 2, it continues to strengthen its role in Chile’s renewable energy landscape, fostering sustainable growth in the region.
