Wedoany.com Report-May 9, Jiangsu Ocean Shipping (JOSCO), a subsidiary of Jiangsu Port Group, has signed a contract with Jiangsu Soho Chuangke Shipbuilding in Yangzhou to construct four new containerships. Each vessel will have a capacity of 3,000 teu, making them the largest in JOSCO’s fleet.
Currently, JOSCO operates 30 vessels, with its largest containership at approximately 1,900 teu, according to its website. The new order marks a significant step in expanding the company’s capacity to meet growing maritime transport demands.
Details regarding the cost and delivery schedule of the newbuilds remain undisclosed. This contract follows a previous agreement with the same shipyard for two ultramax vessels. Jiangsu Soho Chuangke Shipbuilding, formerly Sainty Shipbuilding, resumed shipbuilding activities last year after a seven-year hiatus. The yard has secured multiple orders, including ultramax vessels for Chinese leasing firms and Sea Traders, the dry bulk division of Greek shipowner George Procopiou.
JOSCO’s fleet expansion aligns with efforts to enhance its operational capabilities and strengthen its position in the global shipping industry. The new vessels are expected to support efficient and reliable transport services for various trade routes.
