Kia Brings Vehicle-To-Home to USA and Smart Charge Feature to Netherlands

In the USA and the Netherlands, Kia is now enabling EV9 owners to leverage their batteries as a backup power source during blackouts, such as those caused by natural disasters like hurricanes or wildfires. This feature also allows owners to charge their homes at lower rates during peak electricity times, offering a dual benefit. The V2H capability requires a Wallbox Quasar 2 charger and a Wallbox Power Recovery Unit for backup power, ensuring seamless integration.

Beyond V2H, Kia is rolling out smart charging in the Netherlands, designed to optimize EV owners' charging costs by taking advantage of fluctuating electricity rates throughout the day. Owners can either manually manage the app or rely on its automated coordination of data from the vehicle and energy supplier. This feature aims to make charging more convenient and cost-effective.

Kia’s global vision extends beyond these innovations, with plans to expand V2H and V2G (vehicle-to-grid) capabilities in the coming years. By collaborating with major utilities in California, Kia is further enhancing its energy management solutions, aligning with its broader goal of transforming EVs into essential energy assets. Heung Soo Kim, Executive Vice President at Hyundai Motor Group, has praised Kia’s efforts, highlighting its commitment to integrating innovative solutions and driving a sustainable and connected future.
