Wedoany.com Report-May 9, Gravity Inc., a New York-based startup specializing in sustainable electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, is expanding its fast-charging technology to Los Angeles, California. The company announced plans to install eight EV charging stations across the Los Angeles metropolitan area, each equipped with approximately 12 500kW Distributed Energy Access Points (DEAPs). These chargers, capable of delivering 5-minute charging sessions, are designed to provide high-speed, reliable service for EV drivers.
Founded in 2021, Gravity has focused on developing efficient EV charging solutions. The company initially launched a fleet of all-electric Mustang Mach-E yellow cabs in New York City and partnered with local building owners to establish charging infrastructure. In October 2023, Gravity introduced its 500kW chargers, which gained attention for their speed and led to a successful seed funding round supported by Google Ventures. By March 2024, the company opened a charging center in New York with 24 DEAPs, described as the fastest chargers in the United States.
In May 2024, Gravity adapted its DEAP chargers into curbside “trees” to enhance accessibility for urban drivers. The company also expressed ambitions to become a leading fast-charging network in the U.S. Now, Gravity is bringing its advanced technology to Los Angeles, with each station designed to support autonomous vehicles and bidirectional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities, allowing excess energy to be returned to the local grid during peak demand, pending approval from local energy providers.
Moshe Cohen, Gravity’s founder and CEO, stated: “These new 500kW sites are going to be a game-changer for Los Angelenos. They will be far faster and more reliable than anything drivers and fleet operators have experienced, with autonomous vehicle engineering and vehicle-to-grid equipment that will make them the most advanced sites in the nation. Now that we’ve validated the superior reliability and performance of our technology, we are focused on blanketing several of the country’s most important urban markets–and we are delighted to begin our LA expansion.”
The eight charging stations, designed by architectural firm Rangr Studio, will be located in Brentwood, East Pasadena, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, North Hills, Pacific Palisades, and Thousand Oaks. Developed in collaboration with an unnamed national corporate partner, these sites are set to open in 2025. Gravity also plans to introduce hands-free charging technology with dedicated lanes and cable-less systems at these locations.
With this expansion, Gravity aims to enhance EV charging accessibility and efficiency in Los Angeles while laying the groundwork for further growth across other major U.S. cities.
