Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 15, On February 2025, Indonesia’s state-owned PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGEO) and Türkiye’s Zorlu Jeotermal Enerji Elektrik Üretimi A.S. (Zorlu Enerji) signed a Joint Study Agreement (JSA) to collaborate on a geothermal power project. The initiative will take place within one of Zorlu Enerji’s geothermal permit areas in Türkiye, marking a step toward enhanced energy cooperation between the two companies.

Signing of Joint Study Agreement between PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy and Zorlu Enerji

This agreement builds on a Memorandum of Cooperation established earlier in February 2025 between Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Türkiye’s counterpart. PGEO also previously entered a Confidentiality Agreement with Kipas Holding, another Turkish firm, to explore geothermal resources jointly, reflecting its commitment to expanding international partnerships.

Julfi Hadi, President Director of PGE, stated: “This collaboration is expected to open up opportunities to accelerate technology transfer, build a strong geothermal industry supply chain domestically, and can be an attraction for investment in the development of new and renewable energy, especially for Indonesia.” The partnership aims to foster advancements in sustainable energy practices through shared expertise.

Julfi further noted: “This is PGE’s real action in accelerating the optimal utilization of geothermal energy, while also encouraging the development of downstreaming in Indonesia’s new and renewable energy sector.” The collaboration is designed to promote efficient use of geothermal resources and support Indonesia’s renewable energy goals.

The JSA enables both PGEO and Zorlu Enerji to exchange knowledge on geothermal management, leveraging the unique characteristics of geothermal resources in Indonesia and Türkiye. By sharing best practices, the companies aim to enhance their operational capabilities and explore innovative approaches to geothermal energy development.

Beyond the immediate project, the agreement is expected to pave the way for additional cooperative ventures. It creates a framework for PGEO to expand its global presence in the renewable energy sector while fostering opportunities for investment and technological growth in Indonesia’s geothermal industry.

This partnership underscores a mutual commitment to sustainable energy solutions, aligning with global efforts to increase the adoption of renewable resources. Through this collaboration, PGEO and Zorlu Enerji aim to contribute to a robust and environmentally friendly energy landscape, benefiting both nations and supporting broader clean energy objectives.
