This marks the first time a South Korean steelmaker has achieved ASME QSC certification. The recognition is expected to strengthen Hyundai Steel’s position in securing contracts to supply materials for small modular reactors (SMRs) in the United States and other international markets. The ASME QSC is a rigorous global standard that assesses the quality assurance systems of materials and components used in nuclear power plants, ensuring compliance with stringent safety requirements.
The certification enhances Hyundai Steel’s credibility in the global steel market, particularly for nuclear power plant construction and maintenance. It is anticipated to boost the company’s reputation for reliability and quality, paving the way for expanded opportunities in the nuclear energy sector.
Since 2006, Hyundai Steel has supplied materials for nuclear power plant projects in South Korea, including Shin-Kori 1&2, Shin Wolsong 1&2, and Shin-Kori 5&6. In 2011, the company expanded its reach internationally by providing materials for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant project in the United Arab Emirates. With the ASME QSC certification, Hyundai Steel is well-positioned to further its contributions to global nuclear energy initiatives.
