Wedoany.com Report-May 9, On May 7, 2025, CATL unveiled the TENER Stack at the EES Europe trade fair in Munich, Germany, introducing the world’s first mass-producible 9MWh ultra-large-capacity energy storage system, according to a company press release. The system offers advancements in capacity, deployment flexibility, safety, and transportation efficiency, marking a significant milestone in large-scale energy storage technology.
The TENER Stack utilizes CATL’s high-energy-density battery cells, achieving a 50% increase in energy density and 45% better space utilization compared to traditional 20-foot container systems. With a 9MWh capacity per unit, it can charge approximately 150 electric vehicles or power a typical German household for six years, enhancing efficiency for large-scale applications.
The system’s high capacity reduces the number of containers needed for deployment. For example, an 800MWh storage project requires about one-third fewer containers than conventional 6MWh systems, improving land-use efficiency by 40% and cutting construction costs by 20%. This makes the TENER Stack a cost-effective solution for energy storage projects.
To meet the 36-tonne road transport weight limit in many countries, CATL designed a modular “Two in One” structure, ensuring each half-height container complies with regulations in 99% of global markets. A split design further optimizes logistics by supporting multiple standard transport modes, reducing lead times and special transport costs by 35%. The system’s lower center of gravity and improved maneuverability allow it to navigate bridges and rural roads effectively.
Safety is a priority for the TENER Stack, with gas sensors 40% more sensitive, enabling a 35% faster suppression response time. A triple-layer insulation design provides two hours of fire resistance, and the system meets IEEE 693 seismic standards, capable of withstanding magnitude 9 earthquakes and category 5 hurricanes, ensuring reliability in diverse conditions.
Tan Libin, President of CATL’s Energy Storage Business, stated: “TENER Stack represents a breakthrough in energy storage, combining unmatched capacity with advanced safety and efficiency features. We are committed to driving the global energy transition with innovative solutions like this.”
By November 2024, CATL’s energy storage systems had been deployed in over 1,700 projects worldwide, operating in various climates and conditions. The TENER Stack’s launch at EES Europe reinforces CATL’s leadership in providing scalable, safe, and efficient energy storage solutions, supporting the global shift toward sustainable energy.
