India’s Coal Production From Captive, Commercial Mines up 29% in April

2025-05-07 13:46

Wedoany.com Report-May 7, In April 2025, India’s coal production from captive and commercial mines reached 14.01 million tonnes (MT), a notable increase from 10.87 MT recorded in April 2024. The Ministry of Coal reported that coal dispatch also rose, climbing to 16.81 MT from 14.54 MT in the same period last year.

The Ministry of Coal credited this growth to sustained efforts in streamlining operations: “to continuous policy interventions, close monitoring, and handholding of stakeholders to fast-track operational clearances and enhance production capacity.” These measures have supported higher output and improved supply chain efficiency to meet the country’s energy needs.

A significant factor in the production increase was the operational launch of new coal blocks. The Kotre Basantpur Pachmo block, managed by M/s Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), began operations with a Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 5 MT per annum. Similarly, the Naini coal block, operated by M/s Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), started production with a PRC of 10 MT per annum. These developments have bolstered India’s coal output capacity.

The ministry emphasized its commitment to maintaining steady production and distribution: “The focus remains on ensuring seamless production, minimising supply disruptions, and contributing significantly to the country’s growing energy demand.” This approach aims to support India’s energy requirements while enhancing operational efficiency across the coal sector.

The rise in coal production and dispatch reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s energy infrastructure. By prioritizing new mining operations and improving coordination among stakeholders, the country is working to ensure a reliable coal supply to meet increasing domestic demand. These advancements position India to sustain its energy growth while addressing operational challenges effectively.
