Adani Power Secures 1.5GW Electricity Supply Contract in India

Wedoany.com Report-May 8, Adani Power, a renewable energy company, has secured a 25-year contract to supply 1,500MW of electricity to Uttar Pradesh, India. The agreement, finalized through a competitive bidding process, involves power from a new 1,600MW thermal power project in the state.The electricity contract was secured through a competitive bid.

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved the purchase from the upcoming facility, reflecting the state’s focus on long-term energy security. Energy Minister AK Sharma told ANI: “We decided to purchase a total of 1500 MW (ex-bus) power from a 2×800 MW (1600 MW) thermal power project based on competitive bidding. Under this, seven companies came forward and participated in the bidding processes. Adani Power Ltd has won a contract to supply 1500 megawatts from a thermal power plant in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh at Rs 5.383 per unit.”

Sharma noted that Uttar Pradesh expects to require an additional 10,795MW of thermal power by 2033/34 to meet growing energy demands. The tender, issued in October 2024, invited bids for the planned thermal project, as reported by The Times of India. Adani Power won with a tariff of Rs 5.383 per unit, comprising a fixed charge of Rs 3.727 and a fuel charge of Rs 1.656.

On April 30, 2025, Adani Power reported a 19.5% increase in power generation for the 2024/25 financial year, reaching 102.2 billion units compared to 85.5 billion units the previous year. The company’s consolidated power sales volume rose by 20.7% to 95.9 billion units, driven by higher demand and enhanced operational capacity. Total revenue grew by 10.8% to Rs 564.73 billion, up from Rs 509.6 billion, despite slightly lower tariff rates.

Adani Power, part of the Adani Group, operates a generation capacity of 17,510MW from thermal power plants across Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu, plus a 40MW solar project in Gujarat. The new contract strengthens Uttar Pradesh’s energy infrastructure and supports the state’s economic growth through reliable power supply.
