Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 15, In Russia’s Kurgan region, JSC Dalur, a subsidiary of Rosatom, has successfully completed the construction and commissioning of facilities at a pilot industrial site for the Dobrovolnoye deposit. The company recently dispatched its first batch of uranium product, marking a significant step in the project’s progress. The site is located in the Zverinogolovsky district, approximately 1350 kilometers east of Moscow.
Dinis Ezhurov, Director General of JSC Dalur, stated: "The technological building has been launched into operation according to the full technological cycle and the first product in the form of ammonium diuranate has already been obtained, which fully complies with quality indicators. Conducting pilot work will allow Dalur to move on to industrial development of the deposit. We will ensure a stable supply of natural uranium concentrate until 2045 and create up to 300 jobs."
The Russian government granted permission to develop the Dobrovolnoye deposit in 2017. Following consultations with local communities in 2019, it was agreed that no construction would occur in flood-prone areas along the Tobol River. Pilot operations began in October 2020, with the main project construction starting in 2021. The deposit, estimated to hold 7067 tonnes of uranium, is expected to boost JSC Dalur’s annual uranium recovery from 590 tonnes to 700 tonnes.
Rosatom highlighted the unique geological conditions of the Dobrovolnoye deposit, noting its complex geochemical environment. To extract uranium, the company employs the borehole in-situ leaching method, which is described as more efficient and environmentally considerate compared to traditional underground mining techniques. This approach minimizes surface disruption while accessing the resource.
The successful commissioning of the pilot site paves the way for full-scale industrial operations. The project is anticipated to contribute to the region’s economy by generating employment opportunities and ensuring a steady supply of uranium concentrate for decades. JSC Dalur’s efforts reflect a commitment to advancing resource development responsibly in the Kurgan region.
