To date, COSCO SHIPPING has a fleet of more than 1,300 vessels with a comprehensive capacity exceeding 113 million deadweight tons, ranking first in the world. Its dry bulk fleet, tanker fleet, general cargo and special cargo fleet, container terminal throughput and crew management all rank first in the world. Its container fleet, container leasing, fuel supply, ship agency and offshore engineering manufacturing rank among the world's top. The Group's operating routes cover more than 1,500 ports in over 160 countries and regions worldwide, making it a highly internationalized enterprise.

COSCO SHIPPING actively implements the "Belt and Road" Initiative, consistently adhering to the principles of "consultation, joint construction and shared benefits" and the value of "mutual benefit and win-win cooperation." Along the "Belt and Road," the Group has continuously deepened investment and presence in shipping routes, ports and comprehensive logistics, building an integrated "Shipping + Port + Logistics" transport corridor. Based on harmonious development between the enterprise and local communities, it is committed to promoting global connectivity and economic and trade development. To date, the Group has completed investments of RMB 64.2 billion along the "Belt and Road," invested in 20 container terminals. Its container fleet has deployed 195 container liner services along the "Belt and Road", with a capacity of 2.03 million TEUs, accounting for 68% of the total container fleet capacity, laying a solid foundation for connectivity. Meanwhile, the Group continues to expand its Asia-Europe rail-sea intermodal transport and international train businesses, and fully supports the construction of the New Land-Sea Corridor.

02 Milestones
  • 2016.01

    On January 4, with the approval of the State Council, COSCO Group and China Shipping Group were reorganized to form China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited. On February 18, COSCO SHIPPING was officially established in Shanghai.

  • 2016.04

    On April 8, COSCO SHIPPING and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund officially signed the Share Transfer Agreement and Shareholders Agreement for the Piraeus Port Authority, marking a milestone in the Group's acquisition of a 67% stake in Piraeus Port. On August 10, COSCO SHIPPING formally took full control of the port.

  • 2016.06

    On June 26, the inauguration ceremony of the new locks of the Panama Canal was held. The "COSCO SHIPPING Panama" vessel became the first and only New Panamax-type ship to pass through the new locks on that day, making history in international shipping.

  • 2016.09

    On September 28, COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING, officially signed a concession agreement with Abu Dhabi Ports Authority. Under the agreement, both parties established a joint venture to jointly build and operate the Khalifa Port Phase II container terminal project in the UAE.

    COSCO SHIPPING Holdings, a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING, was ranked 104th on the Forbes list of the World's Most Trusted Companies, becoming the only shipping enterprise on the list.

  • 2018.07

    On July 24, COSCO SHIPPING completed its tender offer for Orient Overseas (International) Limited. Following the acquisition, the Group's container fleet capacity reached nearly 3 million TEUs, rapidly entering the first tier of the global liner shipping industry.

  • 2019.05

    On May 13, the formal handover ceremony for COSCO SHIPPING's Chancay project in Peru was held at the Government Palace in Lima, the capital of Peru. Chancay Port is COSCO SHIPPING's first controlling greenfield project in South America.

  • 2020.05

    On May 11, COSCO SHIPPING, together with China Mobile and Dongfeng, promoted the launch of China's first 5G full-scenario smart port at Xiamen Yuanhai Terminal.

  • 2020.09

    On September 28, COSCO SHIPPING's "Yangpu–South Pacific–Australia" container route was officially launched at Yangpu Xiaochantan Terminal, becoming the first intercontinental route opened in the Hainan Free Trade Port.

  • 2021.03

    On March 17, after receiving regulatory approvals from global authorities, the Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN) — the world's first independent, non-profit shipping blockchain technology alliance led by COSCO SHIPPING — was successfully established and officially began operations in Hong Kong.

  • 2021.08

    On August 1, the container rail-water intermodal project at Wuhan Yangluo International Port — a major result of the strategic cooperation between COSCO SHIPPING and Wuhan, Hubei Province — was officially opened.

04 Social Responsibility
COSCO SHIPPING has always attached great importance to public welfare and charity activities, actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities and helping to improve the wellbeing of people worldwide. As of December 31, 2021, through the COSCO SHIPPING Charity Foundation, the Group has made cumulative donations of RMB 986 million and organized 754 charitable public welfare projects. In 2021 alone, the Foundation's charitable expenditures amounted to RMB 134 million, supporting the implementation of 57 public welfare and charitable projects.
